Five vulnerable Dungannon children sent to custody

Some of Dungannon’s most vulnerable children have been detained by the police, despite a recommendation from the Department of Justice that this should “always be a last resort”.

Last year, a total of five children living in care were held by Dungannon police in a Juvenile Justice Centre (JJC) or detained in police custody.

Across Northern Ireland, the figure has almost doubled since 2011 causing concern in child care experts.
