Flag at half mast for Thatcher funeral

THE Union flag was flown at half mast from Larne Council offices on Wednesday, April 17 to mark the funeral of Baroness Thatcher.

Councillors voted through the proposal, despite opposition from SDLP councillor Martin Wilson. Sinn Fein representative James McKeown was not present when the vote took place.

Councillor Gregg McKeen made the proposal for the flag to be flown at half mast from Smiley Buildings as a mark of respect for the former Prime Minister, who passed away on April 8. The proposal was seconded by fellow DUP member Alderman Winston Fulton.

As previously reported, the local authority also opened a book of condolence to be signed by members of the public.
