'˜Flog it' comes to Portstewart Presbyterian

A local version of '˜Flog It' is coming to Portstewart!

The last auction at Portstewart Presbyterian Church two years ago was a huge success with large numbers of the congregation and friends enjoying a pleasant day of rummaging and bidding for bargains.

It has also allowed for an opportunity to offload many household items that are no longer useful or needed in members’ and friends’ homes.

The fundraiser has been once again added to the busy Events Committee calendar and will be held in the church hall complex at Central Avenue this Saturday, April 8.

The difference at this auction is that there will be no collection service for heavy or large lots so items transported by car will make up the major part of the sale.

The church auction sees numerous interesting lots sold as bargains. None of the varied selection has any reserve price so there are definite bargains to be had for all interests and needs. A very generous lady member of the congregation donated a selection of good jewellery to the organisers for the last sale, which created really strong interest and helped greatly to the final total raised of over £5000.

An interesting item being offered is a mobility scooter, which is in superb condition. It has lights, indicators and a horn.

Local history buffs will be able to purchase a complete set of “Fading Memories” hardback titles signed by author and local historian Robert Anderson.

Catering plays a major part in the project – encouraging the bidders to remain at the sale all day – and the willing volunteers in the kitchen and serving hall do a tremendous job of attending to the needs of the audience, with the hot dogs a ‘hot favourite’.

The teams backstage cope admirably with the complications of bids, bidding numbers, lot numbers and general confusion usual in such a frantic situation, as

do the stewards and other staff in their various roles.

The auction commencesat 12 noon.

Viewing takes place on the previous night (Friday) from 7-9pm and on the day of the auction from 10am. Admission to viewing and sale is by

catalogue only at £1 and there will be catering on the day of the sale only.

Bids can be left with a steward for those unable to attend.
