Florida win for Deirdre

CHRISTMAS came early for Lurgan girl Deirdre Murray in 1986.

She won a dream holiday for two in sunkissed Florida.

Deirdre was working in Castles Travel, High Street, Lurgan, at the time.

And it was her mastery of price structure that won her the holiday opportunity of a lifetime in beautiful Miami.

She was at a special launch at the airport for British Airways’ new shuttle price structure.

On everyone’s table was a brief quiz about the new fares. Like many others Deirdre filled it in and put it forward for the draw.

The draw was made but her name was not among the five winners of double tickets for a shuttle service to venues in England.

Then an unexpected top prize of two tickets to Miami was announced and Deirdre ‘nearly died’ when her name was drawn from the hat.

John Castles said: “There were 300 people in that room. Deirdre did well to get the answers right but we could never have predicted that she would win the top prize.”

Said Deirdre: “We all entered the competition and never thought anything of it.

“It was the first thing I’d ever won and I felt very shocked when they announced it.”
