Flotilla bringsbig boost to Rathlin Island

It was hailed as a boost to the area by Moyle Council Chairperson, Cllr Cara McShane (pictured right).

The arrival of the Scottish armada was part of a new branding initiative involving the north coast of Ireland and western Scotland, called ‘Malin Waters’.

Moyle Council has agreed to pay funding of over £8,000 to the Malin Waters initiative.

* In other Council news it was heard a training ball wall is being installed by the Ruari Og hurling club in Cushendall.

* Moyle Council Chairperson Cara McShane will be joined by councillors Seamus Blaney and Margaret Anne McKillop to judge street entertainment during the Lammas Fair in Ballycastle.

* Moyle councillor Joan Baird has welcomed plans for new developments at forests in north Antrim but says she hopes it will all be done sensitively regarding the impact on birds and wildlife. Moyle Council officer Esther Mulholland said staff are “well-tuned in” to the issues.

* Cllr Randal McDonnell says councillors should be given some details of ‘Freedom of Information’ requests saying that sometimes individuals know more than councillors.
