Fly-tipping action call renewed

There has been a call for urgent action after another incident of fly tipping in the Lisburn area.

Last month the Star reported that fly tipping in Ravarnet and Drumbo had caused concern for local residents.

Now another incident has occurred, this time on the Eglantine Road close to Lisburn Rugby Club and Lisburn Golf Club. The incident occurred in or around February 28 and has resulted in a large amount of building waste being left behind Housing Executive properties.

Lisburn City Councillor Alexander Redpath said that anyone with information about the incident should contact the police.

“Sadly this is a familiar story and yet again residents are being blighted as a result of irresponsible fly tippers,” said Mr Redpath.

“I have been in touch with the Housing Executive on several occasions over the past few weeks and have been promised an inspection before the end of this week.

“However it must be remembered that the public purse is being put to considerable expense owing to the irresponsible attitude of some people who cannot be bothered to dispose of their waste properly.

“I would urge the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the PSNI.”
