Cllr Wilson said: “It is disappointing to see the towns and countryside surrounding Ballymoney awash with litter. People are literally dropping rubbish a few feet away from litter bins, throwing rubbish from car windows and fly tipping large items along the road verges. 99% of the residents take pride in their town and deal with their rubbish responsibly, we must however clampdown on the 1% that cause the problem.

“One of the core objectives within Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is to see an increase in tourism in turn leading to greater benefits for local businesses. The last thing we need is rubbish and fly tipping on our town and country roads tarnishing the natural beauty of our area. Council provide fantastic waste management facilities, there is also an adequate number of litter bins located. I will be meeting council officers to see how we can put measures in place to catch those responsible and in turn increase the number of fixed penalty notices issued. There is literally no excuse for such behavior.”
