Fly-tipping continues despite £80 fine

Rubbish is again being dumped at the Corcullentragh Road despite an £80 fixed penalty notice being issued to an offender less than a year ago.

The ABC Council issued the fine last April after address details were found among litter dumped in a lay-by off the road, close to its junction with the Loughgall Road.

At that time, the waste management team removed the rubbish, which included a washing machine and plasterboard.

This time, rubbish dumped includes household waste and baby equipment including a car seat.

A council spokesperson said the council was aware of a number of hot spot areas for fly-tipping and regularly monitored these areas.

She said, “We have CCTV cameras which can assist us in tracing and identifying offenders and are also an excellent deterrent.

“Where evidence exists, we will issue fixed penalty litter fines to persons who are found to fly-tip materials.

“We would ask for the public’s co-operation in alerting us to anyone they see fly-tipping materials from a vehicle by taking down the registration number.”
