Tyres have ben dumped in Derrytrasna, Kinnego, Annaloist, Monbrief, Moyraverty, Bluestone and Waringstown.

“Due to the sheer scale of this illegal dumping, the tyres have been reported to the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) who have carried out detailed site inspections and will be arranging for the tyres to be collected avoiding any direct cost to local rate payers,” said a spokesperson for Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon Council. “A number of local premises are also being investigated with regards to the illegal disposal of these tyres.”

The unsightly fly-tipping has been harshly condemned by local DUP councillor Mark Baxter.

He said he had been contacted by a local resident who lives in a rural road near Donaghcloney who asked that the tyres be removed.

Councillor Baxter said: “This is a very worrying development as to date in recent weeks over 600 tyres have been dumped in secluded locations across the borough,

“This to me hints of a sinister element as we know tyres are expensive items to dispose of in the legal manner.”

“The people responsible have scant regard not only for the environment but also the rule of law.”

Council wants anyone with information to report it to NIEA on 0300 200 7856.
