Follow the yellow brick road

This year, Lisnagarvey Youth Society is following the Yellow Brick Road to the Island Hall in Lisburn to bring a dazzling production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ to the stage.

Preparations for this wonderful show are currently well under way, with the young people and production team working tirelessly to make sure the Wizard is ready to greet his Lisburn audience

Dorothy, played by Pippa Duggan, Scarecrow (Rhys Waterworth), Tin-man (Alex Morrow), and Lion (Nicole Bell), along with Toto (played by the cute canine, Britney), the good witch Glinda (Anna Farrelly)and the Wicked Witch (Katie Bowden) began their Land of Oz adventure at the beginning of June. Since then, supported by an enthusiastic cast of 60, it has been a summer of dancing, singing and learning lines – a lot of hard work, and a lot of fun!

Producer Simon Pyper returns to the Youth Society this year having recently produced the Christmas Pantomime Mother Goose for Lisnaga vey at the Island Hall and an award winning production of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Theatre at the Mill in Newtownabbey. Simon comments: “The talent on show in this production is truly inspiring, and given the dedication and hard work put in by the entire cast and production team, The Wizard of Oz is sure to delight Lisburn audiences.”

This musical fantasy based on the story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, features classic songs such as, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard”.

The Wizard of Oz will be staged in the Island Hall, Lisburn, from Thursday 28 to Saturday 30 August 2014.
