Ruth Girvan is stepping down as organist from the Ballintoy church after ten years.

She is soon to be married in August and recently the choir and parishioners gathered together to wish her well and present her with gifts.

Rev Patrick Barton, rector of the grouped parishes of Ballintoy, Dunseverick and Rathlin Island, said: “Sunday 28th June was a “happy/sad” occasion at Ballintoy Parish Church, as we said goodbye to our organist of ten years, Miss Ruth Girvan, soon to be Mrs Craig Kennedy as she gets married in August.

“Happy because Ruth has brought encouragement to our choir and other musicians, she has enhanced our worship with her musical ministry amongst us, and sad because we will miss her, a sentiment expressed in song as the Sunday School sang farewell to Ruth. In the words of the Abba song, we say “Thank you for the Music” and we wish Ruth and Craig every blessing in their married life together.”

Ruth received gifts from parishioners, from the Choir and from the Sunday School and Holly composed a song for the occasion.
