Part of Tesco’s ongoing partnership with charities FareShare and The Trussell Trust, these collection points will be based in local stores nationwide and allow customers to donate store cupboard essentials to people in need all year round, with Tesco topping up all donations financially by 20%.

Rachel Finn, Head of Community Food Programmes, at Tesco said, “We’re proud to be increasing the number of Permanent Food Collection points in Tesco stores by 100, taking us into over 600 communities across the UK including Banbridge.

“We know our customers in Banbridge want to be able to donate food on a regular basis and the steady supply of food year-round is vital to our partner charities.

“We have a proud history of supporting charities.”

The new collection points are part of Tesco’s ongoing commitment to support its charity partners. Food poverty is a vital issue that Tesco customers and colleagues support via the bi-annual Neighbourhood Food Collection.

The addition of these new points will increase the number of Permanent Food Collection Points to 600 across the country.

Tesco estimates that adding these 100 extra points will mean that around 400,000 extra meals will be provided to people in need this year.

In 2015, the current collection points provided 4.5m meals for those in need.
