Formal intervention lifted at St Michael’s

The school confirmed to the ‘MAIL’ this week that a three-day follow up inspection by the ETI resulted in the school coming out of the special measures procedures which were imposed after the inspection of March 2013.

According to the school the quality of educational provision was judged to be good with three quarters of lessons observed deemed to be very good or outstanding and aspects of planning were referred to CASS (the schools’ support service) as models of good practice for other schools to follow.

The grammar school said there was also praise for the students who were found to be very respectful and were described as a real credit to the school while another key conclusion was the finding that the school had emphatically shown a capacity to move forward.

A spokesperson for St Michael’s said: “To move up two levels on the ETI scale of school assessment and come out of special measures in twelve months is very unusual and the fact that we have done so is a measure of the commitment and dedication of all of our staff.

“The principal and staff are delighted with the outcome of the follow-up inspection and the principal thanked the members of the inspection team for the positive and supportive manner in which the follow-up procedure had been handled. Mr Adams also thanked the parents and the members of the wider community for their continued and much valued support throughout the past 12 months.”

The ‘MAIL’ spoke with the ETI and were told the inspection report had not been published yet and they could not comment until it was.
