Former Glenavon player denies perverting the course of justice

A former Glenavon footballer and his wife denied lying to police in an allegedly fake burglary claim.

Standing side by side at Downpatrick Crown Court on Tuesday, Garth and Kim Walsh, both 35-years-old, entered not guilty pleas to an offence of perverting the course of justice on 15 September 2012.

Garth Walsh, who played in midfield for Irish Premier league teams Glenavon and Crusaders, is alleged to have told a 999 emergency operator their home at Brooklands Crescent in Dundonald had been burgled and that their car had been stolen while his wife Kim is alleged to have made a false statement to police making the same claims.

Releasing the couple on continuing bail, Judge Piers Grant listed the trial for 17 November.
