Former GP gets MBE for service

One of the borough's most popular former doctors has been named in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Former Northern Ireland’s GP of the Year, Dr Pamela Logue is to receive an MBE for services to medicine.

Dr Logue was a specialist in genito-urinary medicine and was a GP at Portrush Medical Centre until her retirement in September 2014.

Originally working in hospital medicine, Dr Logue’s career spanned 41 years with 34 spent at Portrush.

Originally from Armagh, Dr Logue studied medicine at Edinburgh University and has been closely connected with the north coast since she was a child.

After graduating she worked in Ballymoney as a trainee and then worked as single-handed doctor at Murvue Terrace in Portrush.

Dr Logue moved to the Medical Centre in 1987 and the practice went through a merger two years later.

Speaking to the Times during her retirement, she praise her “absolutely wonderful” colleagues and patients: “I’ve seen a lot of changes in my time in the profession. The people here have been very good and kind and I feel very privileged to be part of people’s lives over the years.

“You are with them through good and bad times and some of the babies I met when I first became a doctor now have families of their own.”
