Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd and party colleague Catherine Seeley welcomed former MP for Fermanagh/South Tyrone Michelle Gildernew to the town last week as part of a series of Sinn Féin Leadership meetings across Ireland.

The Tory Government’s Austerity policies and the upcoming Assembly elections were high on the agenda.

Deputy Mayor Catherine Seeley said, “Michelle visited the area as part of a series of public meetings the Sinn Féin party leadership
have organised across Ireland, engaging with people, debating and listening to the many points of view and concerns within the
community; not least the on-going attack on society by the British Conservative Government.”

Her party colleague Upper Bann MLA John O’Dowd added,

“People rightly have many concerns about the ongoing tactics of the British Government, and indeed, the tactics of unionist politicians.

“Sinn Féin, however, remain absolutely committed to both the peace process and to the protection of our society and citizens against the Austerity being pushed forward by London.

“Sinn Féin are here to stay and are committed to finding resolutions
to the current political crisis.

“All parties, and governments, must come to the table with the same
attitude.”
