Fort Hill residents share concerns with Environment Minister Poots

ENVIRONMENT Minister Edwin Poots has met with residents from Fort Hill in Lisburn to discuss their concerns about a controversial planning application in their area.

Lagan Valley MLA Paul Givan invited the Minister to view the proposed site for an apartment block that residents say will double the existing number of residential homes in the cul-de-sac.

Speaking after the meeting Mr Givan said; “I felt it was important that the Planning Minister was able to see the proposed site and hear first hand the concerns from local residents about the impact this application will have on the area.

“Fort Hill is a small cul-de-sac with period dwellings which should this proposal be given approval would change the character of the area.

“There has already been a considerable change to the character of houses in this area around the North Circular and Belsize Road. As a result of the new Planning Policy Statement brought in by Arlene Foster and Edwin Poots this has now changed I am of the firm view that if proper planning policies are applied to this application it will be unacceptable.”
