Fort James fund exceeds £88k

A £70,000 gift to the young people of Larne has grown to £88,466.89 in 10 years.

DUP councillor Drew Niblock ascertained the balance of the Fort James Fund after he submitted a written question at Larne Borough Council.

He was also informed that council officers “continue to negotiate with other statutory providers in an effort to lever additional funds to add to this sum of money”.

A report detailing proposals is to be presented to councillors “in the near future”.

The fund was left as a legacy by the owners of the Larne paper mill when it closed in 2002
