Chairperson Valerie Jenkins welcomed Shirley Cooke and Eddie Judson, who gave a presentation about the vital service Good Morning Newtownabbey provides to older and vulnerable people.

Praising the work of the Good Morning team, Mrs Jenkins said the Forum would be supportive of plans to extend the service into rural areas of the borough.

“This is a free telephone service for the older and vulnerable people living in our borough,” she explained. “This organisation contacts those who are in the scheme on a daily basis, checking that they are ok and reminding them of doctors appointments, prescriptions and such like. Those who administer the scheme are anxious to expand their service to the rural parts of our borough and we in Ballyclare are more than happy to play a part in the promotion of this worthy cause.”

She added: “If you know of someone who would benefit from this worthwhile service the Good Morning team can be contacted on 028 9086 6385 or alternatively via our Forum.

“We would ask that everyone gives this topic some serious thought - a simple telephone call can give much reassurance to an older or vulnerable person.”
