Several swimming clubs throughout the Lurgan Craigavon and Portadown areas believed the current proposals for the swimming pools were insufficient.

Sources said that while the stakeholders may have some say in the future of the interior of the centre the footprint of the complex will not be changed.

It is understood the council is set to apply for outline planning permission for the centre which will also have an eight court sports hall, state of the art gym, studio spaces for dance, free cycling and other activities.

And building firm Farrans Construction is holding a Supplier Engagement event in partnership with Constructionline to source suppliers for the new centre.

Sub-contractors are invited to meet with Farrans to discuss potential work opportunities at the centre on December 3 between 10am and 3pm at the Civic Centre.
