Foster visits Kilrea go-karting business

MINISTER for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Arlene Foster, visited a Kilrea go-karting business on Thursday.

The Minister, who also visited the Milk Cup tournament in Coleraine, spent over two hours at GoProKart in Kilrea, hosted by business partners Stephen Blair and Richard Patterson.

Mrs Foster was given a tour of the business at Movanagher Road, visited the track and even had a go at some go-kart racing.

She was accompanied on her visit by MP Gregory Campbell and MLA and local councillor Adrian McQuillan.

GoProKart partner Richard Patterson told The Times: “Our local councillor Adrian McQuillan contacted us to tell us that the Minister was coming down to the area that day as she wanted to find out how businesses in the area were coping with the downturn in the economy.

“When she arrived, she spent over two hours here, discussing various issues with us, touring the track and having a go at racing and having a bit of fun.

“She also spoke about business matters in general but it was also great to see someone from government taking an interest in business outside of the greater Belfast area.

“She was very proactive and was very approachable.

“She knew exactly all about the plight of the small business at the moment and was very switched on about the issues which face rural businesses.

“It was very good to meet her and we’re glad she took time to meet us.”
