Foster’s support for specialist nursing services

Grocer John Howie bagged hot roasted chestnuts from his King’s Road fruit and flower shop to raise £350.00 for the charity.

Shoppers were drawn to the bespoke stall during a fair day as the aroma of the chestnuts and the heat of the fire added a touch of warmth to a very cold day.

Foster’s shop is a well-known supporter of the Children’s Hospice and this latest fundraiser will help local life-limited children, young people and their families needing care and support.

Store owner John Howie said: “I think Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice is simply outstanding. Everyone associated with it deserves whatever help and support we can provide. With the support of my customers, who I would like to thank, we will help pay towards specialist nursing care.

“To be honest it makes you feel good knowing you have done something worthwhile for those families and children. It is always a privilege to be in a position to do something to help a very deserving cause.”

Praising the response from the seaside town following the cheque presentation, the charity explained how the money will help provide vital services.

Catherine O’Hara, Community fundraiser, said; “On behalf of everyone at Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, I would like to thank John, his colleagues and customers for their support and generosity. Every pound raised will have a positive impact in ensuring the services we provide continue for the children, young people and their families using our specialist services.

“Last year we cared for almost 300 life-limited children living in Northern Ireland. With very little Government funding, we depend on the wonderful people of Whitehead and further afield who are unbelievably generous.”

Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice provides respite and end of life care for children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. Practical, emotional and bereavement support is also offered for the whole family.
