Found with small amount cannabis after police search

A 36-year-old man was fined £200 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for a drugs offence.

Philip Thomas James Magowan, Atkinson Avenue, Portadown, admitted unlawful possession of a class B drug, cannabis, on December 26 last year.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that as a result of a report police went to an address where they searched the defendant and a small amount of suspected cannabis was found.

Magowan admitted it was cannabis and he had bought it for himself to use as pain relief.

Mr Richard Monteith, representing the defendant, said that his client had one relevant previous conviction in 1992.

He added that Magowan had substantial difficulties with various aches and pains.

Mr Monteith said that the defendant had not wasted police or forensic time.
