Fountain residents parking considered

A RESIDENTS parking scheme in the Fountain is being considered by Roads Service with a similar scheme in the Bogside due for implementation in 2011 following a further public consultation.

Road Minister Conor Murphy said a second scheme for residents of the Fountain, Bishop Street and Abercorn Road was on the cards.

He was responding to an Assembly Question tabled by Foyle MLA Mark Durkan on the provision of residents parking schemes in Londonderry.

The Minister advised: "My Department's Roads Service has advised that the proposed Residents' Parking Scheme for the Bogside area of Derry is currently being taken through the legislative process.

"It is hoped that, subject to further public consultation, the scheme can be fully implemented by mid-2011. Proposals for a second scheme encompassing the Bishop Street, Fountain and Abercorn Road areas of Derry are under consideration."
