Four Londonderry football clubs receive £20,006 over the last five years

FOUR Londonderry football clubs playing outside the Irish Premier League were the sole recipients of money from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL) over the past five years - together receiving £20,006 in direct funding.

In 2008/9 Newbuildings United FC received 10,000 from an Awards for All fund for coaching.

In 2005/6 Ballymoor FC and Groarty Sky Blues received 2,190 and 4,684 respectively - also for coaching.

During the same year Oxford United received 3,192 for equipment.

Sports Minister Nelson McCausland explained how 3,448,569 was provided directly to clubs outside the Irish Premier League during the period. He said Sport Northern Ireland (SNI) was responsible for the development of sport in Northern Ireland.
