Four nationalist candidates elected at first count in early result for Mid Ulster

All three of Sinn Fein's Mid Ulster candidates were elected along with the SDLP's Patsy McGlone in a very early result for the Mid Ulster election count.

Sinn Fein’s Ian Milne topped the poll with 7,035 votes, followed by Patsy McGlone on 6,209. Michelle O’Neill came in third with 6,147 and Linda Dillon was elected in fourth position with 5,833.

Sandra Overend, who polled in fifth place (4,862) and the two DUP candidates, who were pretty much neck-in-neck.

After transfers were counted from Ian Milne, no one was elected at the second count, but the Workers’ Party’s Hugh Scullion got a big boost to his count, with 602 votes transferred.

The turnout in Mid Ulster was 41,381 of an eligible 70,430, meaning just under 59 per cent turned out on the day.
