The former Tesco unit in the mall will be split into two with Discount NI and Home Bargains set to open tomorrow.

In the retail park area Poundstretcher is taking over the old Carpet Right store while Pets at Home will move into the unit recently vacated by Peacocks.

“We are continually looking at ways to strengthen our retailer line up and believe these four new stores will greatly add to the customer experience and the choice and value we offer,” said Rushmere Shopping Centre manager Martin Walsh.

“We are confident that these new additions will prove to be a big hit with our customers.”

Discount NI store says its aim is to help “cost-conscious shoppers” beat the recession by offering a ‘value’ alternative to other high street retailers.

The new store, to be officially opened by Mayor of Craigavon Councillor Carla Lockhart, will be celebrating by providing entertainment and balloons as well as store giveaways. The opening will also be attended by members of the Brownlow Community Hub, who will be presented with a donation of Discount NI arts and crafts goodies for the community group.

With savings on leading brands such as Fairy, Coca Cola and Johnson’s, Discount UK offers over 6,000 products with 4,000 of them £1 or less. The range includes household essentials, toiletries and groceries, as well as higher value products such as irons, frying pans and toasters.

Chris Edwards Junior, trading director at Discount NI, said: “Craigavon is a great town and we’re very pleased to be opening our first store here.

“We look forward to welcoming shoppers in Craigavon and invite them to take advantage of the deep-cut offers available on everyday essentials such as toothpaste and toilet roll, as well as specialised products including branded toys, electricals, gardening and home wares.”

Discount NI at Rushmore Shopping Centre is the 40th store to open and marks the brand’s expansion with store numbers expected to reach 50 by the end of this year. Discount NI was founded in 2010.

Discount NI, who already have stores in Newtownabbey and Newtownards, is the sister company of single price retailer, Poundworld.
