Over a dozen local properties - including lots from St Johnston, Manorcunningham, Burnfoot, Carndonagh, Culdaff, Castlefin and Letterkenny - went under the hammer in the RDS on July 8.

Allsop - the firm behind the auction - said it recorded strong residential sales with fast-paced bidding in the room and over the phone resulting in the sale of 178 properties with a total sales value of over 24.5m euros. On average, properties sold for 28 per cent over the reserve.

A four bedroom detached house located at Tooban Upper, Burnfoot, overlooking Inch Island and the Swilly was offered for a minimum of 50,000 euros and although it was advised the property was “shell and core and in need of internal completion/fit out” it actually sold for 152,500 euros. Another four bedroom house at Largy outside Killybegs, with spectacular views overlooking Donegal Bay, was being auctioned with a reserve of 90,000 euros and was sold for that price.

And a four bedroom semi-detached property at 5 Churchview Street, St Johnston, which overlooks the River Foyle, and started at 40,000 euros, sold for 55,000 euros. In North Inishowen a detached four bedroom house at Chapel View, Templemoyle, Culdaff, was offered at 60,000 euros and despite the last bid being 60,000 apparently remained unsold.
