Foyle Civic Trust galadinner after 25 years

The Foyle Civic Trust will begin its 25th anniversary celebrations with a gala dinner in the Guildhall on Thursday, September 18.

Two days of events will follow the reception with the Trust set to launch a new website and showcase recent publications such as the ‘Foyle Heritage Map,’ the ‘Foyle Source Book’ and ‘‘Twist Foyle and Bann: A Heritage Guide.’

Looking forward to the celebration dinner a spokesperson for the Trust explained: “It is fitting the celebrations should start here, in the Guildhall with a Gala Dinner and prestigious lecture, in the same building where the Trust was inaugurated 25 years ago in Spring 1989.

“Since then, much has changed socially, politically and architecturally in the city of Derry/Londonderry and its environs.

“Indeed, the few people who were at the initial meeting in April 1989 must be struck by the changes within the city.

“Amongst that few will be Joe Tracey, the current Honorary President of the Trust, one of the original founder members.

“Mr Tracey will introduce the keynote speaker, Professor Alistair Rowan, for a lecture entitled: ‘Derry Revisited: An Historian Looks at the City.’”
