Foyle move pends funding

PROGRESS on Foyle and Londonderry's move to the Waterside pends the determination of the Department of Education capital budget.

Thus argued Education Minister Caitrona Ruane when asked by Foyle MLA Mark Durkan to provide an update on the provision of the new build for Foyle and Londonderry College at Clooney.

She replied that the project was at an early planning stage and was dependent on capital funds being made available over the next few years.

She promised to continue to argue for significant capital to improve the schools estate.

"The project to build a new school for Foyle & Londonderry College on the Clooney site is at an early stage of planning. The Stage C submission (initial sketch plans and costs) was received in my Department on 23 September 2010," she stated.

"The project remains on my Department's Investment Delivery Plan however the timing as to when it might be taken forward can only be considered when the capital budget for the coming years has been determined.

"I will of course continue to press the case for significant capital funds for the schools estate," she added.
