Foyle Rescue Sonar Radar Appeal

THE charity group Friends of Foyle Search and Rescue has launched an appeal for organisations to help them raise money for a Sonar Radar for use along the Foyle waterway.

The organisation is holding a charity dance in the Tower Hotel on Saturday, October 13, and have appealed for support.

Since the inception of Foyle Search and Rescue, the group’s interventions have saved many lives and brought comfort to many bereaved families, According to Stephen Harkin, representing Friends of Foyle Search and Rescue,

“It is this amazing dedication by our men and women that enables us to face the challenges of the future with confidence,” said Stephen, continuing: “Foyle Search and Rescue is a distinguished and essential service in the city. Faced with the ever-increasing need for the service set against the worryingly increasing number of those who chose to take their lives in the river Foyle, the Friends of Foyle Search and Rescue are seeking support to help us raise funds to purchase a Sonar Radar. This piece of equipment will assist in the recovery of those lost to the Foyle, thus reducing the anguish and distress of those family members left behind”.

Mr Harkin revealed that the Sonar Radar will costs around £45,000, which will include the cost of volunteer training.

“We are running an event in the Tower Hotel on Saturday, October 13, at 7pm. For this event to be a success we ask the business community to sponsor tables or by buying seats for the event.

Tables are £500 and for this you business will be included in all our promotional materials and a flag raised at the table of your choosing, stating the they helped raise funds for Foyle Search and Rescues Sonar Radar appeal,” he said.

Seats are £50 which include a four-course set meal, music by McArthur Park, a drinks reception and a delightful evening of dancing and great entertainment, including a prize draw.

Those attending the dinner are asked to observe that this is a black tie and cocktail dress event.
