Foyle salecould take place by end of 2017

Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry says the University of Ulster could complete the purchase of the old Foyle College after the school vacates the site in 2017.

That’s despite a recent claim the University would not be able to purchase the old Foyle and Londonderry site at the Northland Road as soon as the school vacates to the Waterside.

Pressed on the matter by Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey the Minister said: “The University signed an option to purchase agreement in December 2009 and the option was exercised during December 2011.

“There is as yet no firm date for Foyle College to vacate the site, but the University is advised that this is currently planned for summer 2017. “Subject to satisfactory compliance with all terms of the agreement, the University would complete the purchase six months after Foyle College vacates the site.”
