Foyle Valley villages celebrate change project in Donemana

A NETWORK of local community groups in the villages and countryside between Newbuildings and Strabane last week celebrated the launch of its Delivering Change Project at the Drummond Centre in Donemana.

The Villages Together event gave an opportunity for local groups to hear more about how they can be supported to investigate new ways of operating and how the sector can look towards sustaining itself without the need for funding in an era where funding available is decreasing.

The Villages Together will, over the next eighteen months, be looking at how other groups sustain themselves and how local community and voluntary groups can learn from this.

The Villages Together has been reviewing how it operates as part of this project and is focusing on a number of strategic themes – including women, health and local history and heritage.

The organisation is also using this project to highlight the benefits of volunteering and are keen to hear from anyone with a special interest or talent.

The full detail of the project was presented at the launch which saw good interest and excitement for the future. From this funding The Villages Together will be working in closer co-operation with many other groups and organisations that can improve life for local people.

More information on the Delivering Change project is available from The Villages Together on 7184 1735 or by email – [email protected].
