Fred Cobain (UCUNF)

FRED COBAIN was born in North Belfast and has a long history of involvement in local politics with the Ulster Unionist Party. This includes upwards of 20 years serving as a councillor with Belfast City Council and being a North Belfast MLA since 1998. In the Assembly he is the current Chairperson of the Department for Regional Development Committee and for the last year has also been acting as the Ulster Unionist Party Assembly group whip.

Fred Cobain has a good working knowledge of North Belfast and has established strong relationships with both the statutory and voluntary sector. He works closely with a number of North Belfast community organisations including the North Belfast Partnership Board, Greater Shankill Partnership Board, FASA, Farset Youth and Community Development, Filor Housing Association, Shankill and Woodvale Housing Association, Loughview Community Action Partnership and numerous other community groups. He is committed to the principles of community empowerment and also supports community relations work throughout North Belfast.

Fred believes that his party’s relationship with the Conservatives will enable Northern Ireland to be properly represented on important issues of state such as economic policy, taxation, public spending, defence and constitutional issues.
