Free dog micro-chipping

New legislation to be introduced from April 2012 will mean only micro-chipped dogs can be issued with a dog licence which in effect will make micro-chipping compulsory.

A micro-chip is a small electronic device that is implanted between the dog’s shoulder blades under the skin. A unique identification number is registered to the animal and the owner’s details are placed on a national database. Micro-chipping does not require an anaesthetic and the procedure should cause no more discomfort than a standard vaccination. It acts as a permanent means of identification and is the most effective way of getting your dog returned to you if it is lost or stolen.

With this in mind Moyle District Council, in conjunction with The Dogs Trust, are holding a series of micro-chipping sessions throughout the district from 13th February until 17th February 2012 as follows:

Monday 13th February

Waterford Car Park Cushendall 10.00am- 3.00pm

Tuesday 14th February

Play Area Car Park, Church Street Armoy 10.00am 12.00am

Wednesday 15th February

Thursday 16th February
