Free garden trees take root in Glens

Over 1600 trees have been given away as part of a campaign by the Heart of The Glens Landscape Partnership Scheme.

The initiative aims to increase the number of trees planted in gardens throughout the Glens of Antrim.

Réamaí Mathers, manager of the partnership said: “One of the themes of the landscape partnership scheme focuses on biodiversity and landscape character. “Planting native flowering trees can only help with both these areas. What better way to get people involved in this work than facilitating them to make their own gardens more beautiful and wildlife rich.

“The uptake in the scheme has been tremendous and could not have happened without our unique partnership with The Woodland Trust, Glens Red Squirrel Group and NIEL Challenge Fund.”
