Free hearing checks at Fairhill

RNID Northern Ireland, the charity taking action on hearing loss, has teamed up with Ballymena's Fairhill Shopping Centre to offer free hearing checks and information on hearing loss to its customers on Tuesday 26 October 2010 from 9am-6pm.

The aim of the day is to encourage the public to take steps to communicate better with deaf people, and to address any hearing loss they might be experiencing themselves.

RNID’s Outreach Volunteer Co-ordinator Mariette Mulvenna explains, "We are delighted to be given this opportunity by Fairhill Shopping Centre to reach out to the many local people who have a hearing loss but haven't had the courage to do anything about it. Hearing loss can be isolating but it doesn't have to be. Our trained volunteers can help you improve your communication skills and get best use out of a hearing aid to enable you to change your life."

Fairhill customers are encouraged to come along and have their hearing checked and to consider giving some of their free time to volunteer for RNID.

RNID's services include sessions in local centres to help people with their hearing aids, information on hearing loss and hearing aids and also volunteers to visit people in their own homes to sort out hearing aid problems.
