Free insulation this winter

CARRICK residents are being given the chance to cut hundred of pounds off their heating bills this winter with free loft and cavity wall insulation, courtesy of NIE Energy.

Marie Murray from the company said: “Many people don’t realise that half of all the heat generated by your heating literally goes out through the walls and roof. One sure way to use less oil or gas is to have a well insulated home. I would encourage those who are eligible to apply and make their homes cosy in time for the harsh winter weather.”

A full free package of loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, hot water tank jacket and four energy saving light bulbs is available to single person households with an income or pension of less than 18,000 and couples or single parent families with an income or pension of less than 25,000. Those over 70 with an income or pension of less than 30,000 can also take advantage of this offer. To apply, you also need to be a homeowner or private tenant.

Mr Miles said: “This is a valuable package of support to local householders, making it as easy as possible for those most at risk of fuel poverty to make their home warm and cosy, as well as saving money on their electricity bills.”

Funding is limited, with grants offered on a first come, first served basis.
