Free secure IT seminar at UU Magee

IF you want to learn how to provide secure IT solutions for your business or organisation, a free lunchtime seminar in the Intelligent Systems Research Centre at the University of Ulster at Magee tomorrow would be an excellent place to start.

‘The Role of Biometrics in Secure Information Solutions’ should be of interest to anyone keen to know more about how emerging technologies like biometrics can be used to provide secure IT solutions. A biometric system is a pattern recognition system that establishes a person’s identity by comparing uniquely specific biological or physical characteristics.

Current biometric technologies include fingerprint scan identification, iris scan identification, signature verification, voice recognition and DNA analysis.

The seminar will include presentations by experienced biometric identify management experts, Patricia O’Hagan and Vincent Kennedy.

Patricia O’Hagan, Managing Director of Core Systems (NI) Ltd, has over 12 years experience in the biometric industry and is an international speaker on Corrections Technology. She has presented at industry forums, including the American Corrections Association, the Home Office and the Inter Prison Service Security Group. Patricia has also served on the Skills for Security Human Identity, Management & Biometrics Sector Consultation Group on the development of national occupational standards for the sector.

The event is part of the innovative programme of activities organised under the auspices of the University of Ulster’s Knowledge Club to encourage stronger links between the University, business and the community. By offering a basis for discussion and collaboration between the University and the business sector, the Knowledge Club aims to facilitate economic regeneration in the region. The event organised by the University of Ulster in conjunction with North West Regional College, is funded by CONNECTED
