Free swimming for over 60s

Residents aged over 60 will now be able to avail of free access to swimming pools in the borough.

Swimming in each of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s three pools; Antrim Forum, Sixmile and Valley Leisure Centres, is now free.

So if you’re a seasoned swimmer, just want a bit of gentle exercise or you’re a complete beginner, there has never been a better time to dive into the pools.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr John Scott commented: “Swimming is an ideal activity for older people as it is low impact and there is little risk of injury. There are also lots of other health benefits associated with swimming including increasing flexibility, reducing stress and improving blood circulation which can reduce the risk of heart and lung disease. We are delighted that we can now offer our older residents this activity free of charge.”

If you are over 60 and a resident of the borough, just bring along proof of age to the centre on your first visit and register for an Activity Card for free. Not only will you be able to use the pools free of charge, you will also get discount on other activities.
