Free wifi on the cards for Limavady

The local council have submitted two further applications for funding to improve the town centre which, if successful, would see free internet on offer, the ‘reinvigorating’ of even more sites around the town centre and even a small mobile stage to host events and shows in Drumceatt Square on Main Street.

Applications are currently being sought from the owners of commercial properties in the ‘Western Corridor’ of Limavady - namely Linenhall Street and a section of Main Street - for a ‘re-vitalise’ shop front improvement scheme, funded by the Department for Social Development, to improve the look of the town.

Now, the Director of Development at Limavady Borough Council, in a report presented to councillors ahead of a meeting scheduled for last night (January 14), has revealed that more funding is being sought to improve the town centre.

The report states: “Two further applications have been submitted to the Department for Social Development under the promotions theme of their Town Centre initiatives. The first comprises funding towards a series of events, promotions and development work leading up to the St Patrick’s Day weekend. The second is for a range of items which will be utilised for Limavady Town Centre. This includes: Installing wifi for the main town centre, covering Catherine Street, Linenhall Street, Market Street and Main Street; Reinvigorating the banner sites around the town centre; Refreshing and adding to Christmas lights for Christmas 2014; Installing display boards/information points for the alleyways and entries in the town centre; Installation of a PA/Music delivery system for Drumceatt Square and Market Street; Purchase of a covered mobile stage for small scale events and shows in Drumceatt Square.”
