Encouraging the public to get out and about this Saturday and the first Saturday of every month and support traders participating in the Market, the Mayor Martin Reilly said it’s the perfect location to do some shopping of locally produced and specialist products in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

He said: “The city’s Walled City Market, which is organised by Derry City Council, hosts a wide range of foods straight from the farm, including meats, fruit, vegetables and fish, as well as craft items, genuine artisan designs and all by local farmers and craft producers at great value prices. It’s a great opportunity to support local businesses and sample some local produce.”

Mayor Reilly said that an important element of the market is the fact that it now features a number of traders from Derry City Council’s Business Opportunities Market Start Up programme. He said it is important in the current economic climate that shoppers do all they can to support local traders and help boost the local economy.

“The Walled City Market is a fantastic event and now coming into the spring months people really enjoy spending time browsing through the stalls and viewing the varied produce that’s on sale. I am looking forward to this weekend’s event when we will have over 20 local stalls selling their produce. I hope to increasing numbers of people coming along every month over the spring and summer to enjoy this local service and help promote local business,” he added.

The Walled City Market takes place from 10 am to 5pm on the first Saturday of every month in Guildhall Square.
