Fresh police appeal in Spiers murder inquiry

DETECTIVES investigating the murder of Trevor Spiers in Portstewart have made a fresh appeal for information a month after his death.

On Sunday, December 13 last year, at approximately 1:40am, Mr Spiers (28) was subjected to an assault outside Shenanigans on the promenade.

He was taken to hospital but later died. A man has since been charged with his murder, and three other men have been charged with affray.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Harrison, of the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch, says he believes that there are more witnesses who could help with enquiries.

"I would like to thank everyone who has come forward and helped us with this investigation," he said.

"We have one person charged with Trevor's murder but I believe there were others involved in the assault which led to Trevor's death.

"There were large crowds both inside and outside the bar before and during the attack.

"Potentially, there could be at least fifty or more people who were visiting pubs and clubs in the area at that time that we need to speak to as witnesses," said the DCI.

Anyone who was in the area is asked to contact Coleraine police station on 0845 600 8000 and ask to be put through to the incident room.
