Frew condemns 'Twelfth' violence

NORTH Antrim DUP MLA Paul Frew has condemned the violence on the streets of Belfast and elsewhere in and around the Twelfth and has extended congratulations to the Orange Institution and its supporters on "the way they conducted themselves" throughout their celebrations.

He said: “I am absolutely discusted at the scenes of violence, thuggery and vandalism of the last week by Republicans, here in Northern Ireland.

“It really is heartbreaking for everyone associated with trying to pull the country out of the recession and into economic recovery when they see images of the last week being beamed across the globe.

“What has annoyed me once again is the press headlines on the rioting which read "Twelfth night rioting" or "riots as march goes ahead" as if to apportion blame on to the peaceful walkers and spectators somehow,” said Mr Frew.

“What is quite clear is that Republicans were very much organised and have been spoiling for a fight for some time infact they even rioted in places where there was no parading at all, this makes a mockery of the press headlines.

“This is the time we all need to come together and to show the world that this is unaceptable, Sinn Fein have condemned the violence, this I welcome very much, but let’s remember who started the street violence and who used it to their advantage over the last number of decades, who would have orcestrated it for their own narrow aims and objectives, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind, this is a monster that Sinn Fein designed and built but has since became uncontrollable to them and the monster does not recognise Sinn Fein as its master any more,” he said.
