Frew questions Libraries new registration system

LOCAL MLA Paul Frew for North Antrim has slated Libraries NI for commencing a process of changing their registration system but not making the public aware.

Frew said: “I became aware of this system being changed and instantly I was concerned that this was suiting more than one agenda within Libraries NI.

“No one can fault any organisation for updating systems, in fact that is good and proper that they do so but I do not believe this change has been promoted and advertised properly. I feel this change in registration will be used by Libraries NI in an underhand way to justify another round of branch closures!

“I have visited the local branch libraries in Broughshane and Kells & Connor and I am glad to say that the staff are more than helpful when I asked them of the system change but I also know that more staff have been brought in to Ballymena Library to assist in the change over. This raises even more questions as to what support the village libraries are receiving.

“I would appeal to the public in the Broughshane areas, Kells & Connor areas and through the North Antrim constituency, Do Not Take These Libraries for Granted, Please go in and sign the form to change your name over to the new system because I fear that Libraries NI will use the drop in membership to justify closing the village Libraries.”
