Friday parade passes off peacefully

A major parade in Coleraine on Friday night passed off without major incident.

Chief Inspector Mark McClarence said more than 65 bands took part in the parade.

“We worked closely with organisers, marshals and the community to plan for a safe parade. This partnership working, we believe, was beneficial to all. There was only one arrest, for disorderly behaviour.”

He added: “Towards the conclusion of the event, police officers performed CPR on a man who collapsed at Ballycastle Road at about 10.30pm until an ambulance arrived a short time later.

“A man in his 30s was taken to the local hospital and later transferred to Altnagelvin Hospital.”
