Fridge magnets with police number

The move is a result of evidence produced in the recent Glebeside Policing Survey that showed a large percentage of the residents are unaware of the number.

Iain McAfee who is a member of the Association explained: “Last year the Association undertook the survey and it came back very clearly that there is a need to raise awareness of non-emergency number. Only 14 people out of 205 respondents (6.8%) actually knew the number. The majority admitted not knowing however many still thought it was still the old police station.”

Mr McAfee who is also an Independent member of the District Policing Partnership thanked the PSNI for reacting so positively to the report and moving to address the issue so quickly.

Inspector David Anderson of the Ballymoney PSNI added: “It is vitally important that the community are aware of how to contact Police. Most people will know to use ‘999’ in an emergency, however the Glebeside survey has demonstrated a lack of awareness of the non emergency number 0845 600 8000end_of_the_skype_highlighting. These magnets can be attached to the fridge or another prominent fixture in people’s homes as a ready reminder. We appreciate the assistance of Glebeside Community Association and the Dreamscheme members in distributing the magnets - this is an excellent example of the community working in partnership with the PSNI for the benefit of local people.
