The group set off for the north coast of Spain on Saturday, October 19 for a Home Stay visit to Santander.

Flying into Bilbao, the pupils took the opportunity to visit the Guggenheim Museum.

After further travel by coach, they arrived in Santander where the group would stay for the next five days and pupils were introduced to the families with whom they would be staying.

Each morning pupils attended classes at UNILANG Language School where they benefited from three hours of lessons taught by native speakers.

The topics covered were very relevant to their studies back home, as well as informing them of the local history and culture of Santander.

In the afternoons, pupils had the opportunity to do a variety of activities including attending dance lessons, with instructions in Spanish, and sampling ‘tapas’ and ‘chocolate con churros’.

They also went on several excursions to get to know Santander and the nearby towns.

One of the highlights was visiting the town of Comillas which houses ‘el Capricho’ – one of the few buildings outside of Cataluña designed by the famous architect, Antonio Gaudí.

The trip was an excellent opportunity for pupils to get to know a beautiful part of Spain, as well as to improve their Spanish.
