The 29-year-old, joined Slimming World almost two years ago following her daughter’s birth when even her maternity clothes could not fit her.

When her health began to suffer too and she was finding it increasingly difficult to look after her youngest daughter, she knew that she had to do something.

Miriam says: “When I fell pregnant with my first daughter I felt I at last had an excuse for my weight gain.

“I felt justified in eating a really bad diet of chocolate and takeaways.

“After my daughter’s birth I continued to gain weight, nine months later I couldn’t fit in to any of my clothes, even my maternity clothes. I knew at this stage that I needed to do something about it.”

Miriam, who had attempted various fad diets throughout her late teens and early twenties, always felt she had to go hungry to lose weight.

She couldn’t believe that with sensible changes she could eat all her family favourites and still lose weight with the help of Slimming Worlds food optimising.

She says: “I bit the bullet and joined a Slimming World group in Belfast. I couldn’t believe I could still have really tasty family favourites, curries, chips burgers, all my old takeaway choices and lose weight while enjoying them. I was able to enjoy healthier versions of desserts that I love like Eton Mess, chocolate and banana roulade and even lemon cheesecake.

“I was really enjoying my first few weeks, getting to know the members and joining in the Image Therapy, with ideas to help other members and getting recipes and tips from them to help me.

“After just four weeks, I found out I was pregnant with my second child and was worried that I would go back to my bad old ways.

“I spoke to my consultant who was so supportive, my midwife and consultant worked hand in hand to ensure I had a healthy pregnancy.

“By the time my daughter was born I was a full two stone lighter. I felt amazing.”

Now nearly 21 months later and a six and a half stone lighter Miriam is launching into a new career as a Slimming World consultant. She will relaunch the Trinity group, who will meet on Thursdays at 5.30pm and 7.30pm in Trinity Methodist Church, Knockmore Road. Their first meeting is on Thursday March 26.

Miriam says: “I am so happy to have moved my own life to such a positive, healthy place. It is so important to me to teach my children how to eat properly and have a healthy lifestyle.

“I want to share with others that no matter what their lifestyle or health circumstances, you can lose weight and feel great. I know I can help others to reach their dreams with the help of this amazing plan.”
