Fuel stamp savings available for public

Strabane Community Project, in conjunction with Derry City and Strabane District Council and the Public Health Agency, are delighted to announce the delivery of the Fuel Stamp Saving Scheme with a special information day taking place in the Guildhall on Thursday, March 24 from 10am-2pm.

This invitation is open to the public, voluntary, community, statutory sector and retailers, and staff will be on hand to provide information on how the scheme works. Retailers across the district in particular are being urged to participate.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Elisha McCallion, said: “This is a fantastic initiative which aims to provide best value for local people. “It’s a simple and sensible way to save money which has already been proving successful in Strabane, so I would really encourage more local groups and organisations, as well as the general public, to sign up for the scheme. It really can make a difference.”

The scheme has been operating throughout the former Strabane Council area since April 2013 and has proven a big hit with canny savers as a very effective but simple method of saving. There are currently over 30 retailers participating in the Fuel Stamp Saving Scheme, providing a vital service for their customers.

Strabane Community Project is actively working alongside Bryson Energy’s oil saving club in the servicing of oil buying clubs across the Council area and in the introduction of other energy saving measures.

Anyone hoping to avail of the scheme can simply pick up a free collection card from participating retailers and purchase a £5 fuel stamp which sticks onto the card. Stamps can then be used towards the cost of paying for fuel, simply by contacting any of the participating suppliers, and informing them of your participation in the scheme.
